The history of Sri Lanka German Technical Training Institute Old Boys’ Australia Incorporated (SLGTTIOBA) dates back to 1991. Our members who migrated to Australia during that particular period foresaw the requirement of an association to protect and preserve our values.
These young Sri Lankan families, travelled miles with all their hopes and dreams pinned to this foreign country. For these families there needed to be a network, an association, which provided them the support and care they needed when the reality of being an immigrant in Australia began to set in. SLGTTIOBA was this association that looked after the welfare of these young families and provided them relief in times of need when it was needed most.
From humble beginnings, SLGTTIOBA has now become the most vibrant and strongest community association in Victoria, Australia. Our presence is felt strongly within the landscape of the Sri Lankan community as our commitments go well beyond a typical old boys’ association. We endeavor to cultivate and preserve the Sri Lankan culture, the arts and entertainment within the Australian backdrop.
The backbone to our success has been our strong brotherly bonds. Not only that, we have the willingness to work, capability of planning and executing any task ahead of us. We have a plethora of skills which we harness to our personal and community benefit.
We facilitate an ongoing connection between our association and our mother institution back in Sri Lanka. These close ties build a bridge between two countries miles apart. In any exceptional circumstances that affect our Motherland Sri Lanka or to our second home Australia, we are the association that comes to the forefront to shoulder the burden. One simply cannot name another association where so much work has been done for the betterment of both the Sri Lankan and Australian community.
We are proud to be the largest Sri Lankan association of its own kind in the world and the one of the most dedicated associations within Australia.
