The Rural Development Project commenced in 2000 to improve living standards and infrastructure in disadvantaged Sri Lankan communities.  Kendawa was the first village selected for development, because its civilians have been living in poor living conditions for generations. Kendewa is located 40km from Anuradhapura. In 2008, a state school, a hospital and a water-purifying project were completed.

The association’s objective is to work with the community very closely. Labor and local materials are utilized at all times to reduce costs as well as developing community contribution towards the upgrading of their future.

The association is currently building the Ambagahawewa Pipena Kakulu Pre School.

The excavation, earth work, concrete, masonry work and foundation are complete, awaiting the Educational Technical Training Officer’s acceptance and approval.

Educational scholarships were awarded to over 50 students from Kendewa Maya Vidyalaya, Kebethigollawa Central, Pihimbiyagollawa Maha Vidyalaya and Ambagawewa Primary School.  Volunteer teachers are also sponsored by the project.

A new committee is appointed every July and their first task is to raise funds for this project.  The event is held on an evening, with all-you-can-eat hoppers, dosai and kottu.. Please join SLGTTIOBA to assist this worthy cause, and uplift the unprivileged Sri Lankans.
